Mean Girls film review

I must confess despite the fact Tina Fey penned the screenplay my desire to see the adaptation from book to the silver screen version in Mean Girls (2004) was minimal at best. Mean Girls was not even one of my rentals! My parents rented the film and while working on a project for school, I found myself distracted. Mean Girls was hilarious! Why did I ever doubt Miss Fey to begin with? If anyone could give us a great adaptation its her. Who knows why I did, but I can admit that this feature is one of my favorite high school related films. Mean Girls deserves a watch or five all the same.

High Tension film review

Not too long after Haute Tension (2003) came out, the film’s name was translated to High Tension for its American festival circuit run. Some even know the film as Switchblade Romance, but it is most commonly known as High Tension. I believe that the DVD did not make it to video stores until around 2005 in the USA. I remember finding the film one weekend and renting the feature. Around this time a good friend of mine, who also loved horror films, encouraged me to watch it the evening I rented it. Not many films that he was extremely passionate about one watching, but after viewing High Tension this writer knew why this was one of those films.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space film review

When I started exploring the horror film genre, a family friend introduced to me to Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988). By the title alone, the film automatically gives away the cheesiness that lies within the film. Despite the cheesiness Killer Klowns from Outer Space is still one of my absolute favorite films and I always want to show the feature to my friends. Upon finding this on DVD for cheap the day after Christmas one year at Best Buy, I was beyond overjoyed! This was a film until then I had only known to be on VHS. I even remember running up to my father and bouncing up and down about my friend from pure excitement I had coursing through my veins at the time.

I’m just a daydreamer one of those hopeless believers

I have been trying to catch up on the Arrowverse for a while now.  I’m finally all caught up on all four shows.  During the last season season two of Supergirl Cat Grant said, “Life is long and you will be many people before the end. This quote has stuck with me for some time now.  I think sometimes we are many different people, yet the same person.  I have thought a lot this past year about facades and what we show people and what we don’t.  I’ve try to be as open as possible, but I do think certain events in our lives that change us.  I’m not the same person I was before losing Chris.  I’m not the same person I was before losing my mom.  Both versions before suffering those losses in my life are distant thoughts.  I honestly cannot remember those versions of myself.

Heathers film review

After watching Assassination Nation last week I have had the desire to watch Heathers.  The film is a dark teen comedy about trying to fit in with the in-crowd. At Westerburg High School in Sherwood, Ohio Veronica (Winona Ryder) desperately wants to be a part of the cool crowd. She wants to be a part of the Heathers. This is a group of girls that consist of three girls who are all named Heather. There is Heather Duke (Shannen Doherty), Heather McNamara (Lisanne Falk), and Heather Chandler (Kim Walker). Tick tick tock goes the internal clock

Earlier this year I talked about my funk. I haven’t had the courage to write about part of that depression until now. I’m thirty-four years old and not naive that my days of becoming a mother are more limited the older I become. In fact, when I was in my twenties I made a remark that if I did not have kids by the time I was thirty-five I guess I would not have children at all. Needless to say remembering those words coming out of my mouth this year on my birthday was a hard pill to swallow. Maybe that’s part of why mother’s day was so hard for me this year. I attempted to start writing about why mothers should need shown appreciation, and my other mother, earlier this year and could not bring myself to finish the post. Not on Mother’s Day and not because I don’t believe in such. I did not because when you are faced with a uterus who is constantly angry at you and judging you for the lack of child in your womb it is difficult to do so.

Butterflies in the…office

Upon my mother’s death all of my family members at one point or another were harassed by a yellow butterfly. I kept seeing yellow butterflies show up everywhere I went, even on the job interview that landed me my first job. I kept thinking, “How strange.” I of course thought this was stranger upon hearing about my families experiences as well. Lars and the Real Girl film review

I remember one of my film writing professor mentioning once how easy it would have been to mess up Lars and the Real Girl. There were many ways to do so, but I am certain that he and audiences alike were determined this would be through sex. After all, if Lars is going to have a relationship with the doll then why would the writer or director not include that scene? The answer is because they were smart. The film is handled in such a way that surprised me and when a local Blockbuster went of out business some time ago, the film became a part of my movie collection.

Yelling at my CD player brings it to life

For a while now my radio will randomly shut off.  This has more to do with the CD player in my car and I’m not sure what is wrong with it.  I’m positive this has to do with a wire somehow because while sometimes the CD player just shuts off and other times it shuts off and unlocks/locks my doors.  Either way this has made my mornings and afternoon drives super frustrating.  Some days it doesn’t shut off at all, which is awesome.  Other mornings I feel like I’m a part of a phone call where I’m trying to tell the other person the connection is bad and to stop talking and call me back later. This has prompted a bunch of insane outbursts from me.  Granted, driving in general prompts a bunch of insane outbursts from me, which I will write about at a later time, that includes random profanity I have been trying to use less.

Psycho film review

In 1960, Alfred Hitchcock changed the face of horror and the way movies were viewed entirely with birth of Psycho. While he was known as the Master of Suspense beforehand, Psycho was the film that sealed his nickname for decades to come. There are directors that have of course come close to producing features that take audiences on a thrill ride, but still none like Hitchcock. In fact, after watching a documentary through my cable provider, Dial H for Hitchcock (1999), I learned even more about Psycho.
