We all have those movies from our childhood we cannot stir clear from once we are older. They make their way back into our lives time and time again. Most of the time we can quote these films, or at least parts of them, because we know them by heart. We know the upcoming scene even if it has been three years since we bothered watching the film. I will admit with this one I watched this and the end of its predecessor the weekend before my birthday this year. This was due in good part because they were both on one of the movie channels and played back to back and because I love this film. My cousin Tiffany showed me this film for the first time and I believe I kept her VHS copy of the film until my dad bought me my own copy. I basically held her copy of Grease 2 hostage when we were younger. Should I regret that? No. Should I feel bad for this? Probably so, but when you are looking for a dream on a mean machine with hell in his eyes you don’t play by the rules! Continue reading “What is your favorite guilty pleasure movie?”
What is your favorite classic movie?
Classic cinema is always something that has intrigued me. Over the years I have watched many films that are considered classics. There were even films that I can remember watching that my friends refused to watch because they were in black-and-white. Anything that wasn’t in color wasn’t accepted. This is something I’ve never been able to understand as a movie buff because these people are missing out on so many good films. I remember while studying film in college my professor showed me the Hitchcock classic Rear Window. From that moment on, I fell in love with the magic that not only Hitchcock created but I understood why everyone loved Jimmy Stewart and found a deep appreciation for Grace Kelly. What is your favorite documentary?
Over the years I have watched plenty of documentaries. Most of them are beyond fascinating. In fact, I cannot think of many documentaries that have made me turn them off over the years. And lord knows there have been some I didn’t think I would be able to finish due to the dribble that was being provided for my benefit. The good thing about all documentaries is the knowledge obtained through them, but the fact of the matter is that all documentaries are biased to some degree. I feel in a way this can especially be said about a behind the scenes look at a film. Why would anything painfully negative be said against said film? I cannot think of a reason to be honest with you other than facts that it might not have performed well, but those are facts. That’s why upon thinking of an answer to this question, I realized that this will be the second time I will talk about A Nightmare on Elm Street with this movie challenge.
Who is your favorite movie character?
This is just a cruel joke. How can someone pick just one character? Characters are my thing. They are my life in many ways. I love movies. I love television. I love books. How can I pick just one movie character? And then as I was looking around my bedroom, I realized I do have an ultimate favorite movie character. He also doubles as a comic character, well superhero character as I have not had time to read my Groot comicbook yet. Wow, I really thought I was going to have a better lead in than that to let you know I AM GROOT!!!! Continue reading “Who is your favorite movie character?”
What is a movie that no one would expect you to love?
I have struggled with this question. I even found myself asking one of my best friends and my father if there was a movie they thought no one would expect me to like. The truth is I like so many films there are not many people that would be surprised to here I love a movie. When bringing up the movie I decided upon, a film that is just beyond out there, my dad said I should pick this one. And as much as my dad laughed at this film once upon a time when I told him this was the film I debating on was a horrible movie. I then proceeded to defend this choice because it’s amazing! How can you deny Hulk Hogan as a space alien who fights The Undertaker who is also a space alien? You can’t and that is why the movie I have chosen to write about is Suburban Commando. What is the most underrated movie?
I feel in many ways there are so many movies that fall into this category. Sometimes I even feel as if some of my guilty pleasure films fall into this category. There are films out there though that truly touch us that yet so few people have ever heard of for some reason. The good thing about video movie stores is that they let us peruse the store and allow us to rent films we would otherwise never see. This is not because the films are all trash and were not released in theaters, but because these films are the ones that arrive at populated theaters and leave after a week. No one is seeing these films because they don’t get enough advertisement, but that does not mean they aren’t amazing in their own right. The Fall is one of those films for me. A treasure I found while working at Blockbuster. My friend watched the film first and insisted I needed to watch it as as well. I’m so glad I listened.
What is the most overrated movie?
I oddly enough remember watching the following film in high school. I kept hearing good things about the movie and thinking there is no way I will dislike this film. The truth is not only did I not like it, but I found myself believing it was beyond overrated after seeing it on many people’s best films of all time lists. While I would never include the following film on a list like that for myself, far be it from me to deny others their love of the film. And who knows, maybe I am just not a gladiator film girl because I did not care for 300 either. However, something tells me with all that praise and all that male friends I have that love this particular film, I’m opening up to comments on why Gladiator is not overrated. Who is your favorite actress?
Once again I find myself in debate mode. There are so many talented actresses in the world that it is hard to choose an actual favorite. I find myself in the same dilemma as I did with choosing a favorite actor. In many ways I found myself going through phases with who my favorite actress was once upon a time too. In high school I watched a lot of films the start Gwyneth Paltrow, Nicole Kidman, and Renee Zellweger. Over the years I have continued to watch their films and added Kate Winslet to a list of stars whose films I have always enjoyed. However, for almost a whole decade now I have enjoyed the films of an actress who is slightly younger than me. An actress who has fought zombies, managed to get through high school rumors, and has amazing on-screen chemistry with Ryan Gosling. Continue reading “Who is your favorite actress?”
Who is your favorite actor?
This is such a loaded question for me. I don’t know that I have an overall favorite actor. This has changed over the years many times. In high school I would say I enjoyed films from what I affectionately call the Brit Bunch. Continue reading “Who is your favorite actor?”
What movie has left you feeling disappointed?
Last year on my birthday I thought I was sitting down to see one of the scariest movies I’ve seen in decades. I was hoping for another film like The Conjuring. One that gives an explanation while using the power of shadows and our imagination. A film with a build of up a creature that does not disappoint by the end with bad CGI. The film I was expecting was about a disease that takes us over and creates a creature we cannot identify with by the time the disease courses through us. What little did I know is that whoever edited the trailer for It Comes at Night is the most brilliant editor in Hollywood. Continue reading “What movie has left you feeling disappointed?”
